Another Look at 29 November 1947

On 29 November 1947, as the United Nations voted to partition the Land of Israel, Jewish communities celebrated the opening of the door to statehood after nearly two thousand years of exile. Yet beneath the political drama, a deeper story was unfolding. That same Shabbat, Israel read Torah portions describing Jacob’s return to the Land, and in Jerusalem, the first fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls— including the scroll of Isaiah—came into Jewish hands.
